Markbook Verification
Markbook Verification allows you to verify individual grades for subjects with multiple units. You can also clear verified results, search and verify by programme, record sampled units, release verified results, and sync grades to exams.
Search
Use the search panel to find learners by subject or programme.
When searching by programme, you can select multiple courses for verification. For example, you might select the Online Business and Business Planning courses that are part of the BTEC Diploma in Business Administration programme.
You can also optionally select a tutor group for the chosen programme or subject, as shown in the image below.
You can then choose additional search options to reduce the number of learners displayed using the following toggles:
-
Only show learners with unverified grades
-
Only show learners with generated grades
-
Exclude withdrawn learners
On searching for learners you can then sort and filter the results using the column header and filter options. For example, to filter by grades containing PA. You can combine filters using the AND or OR operators as shown in the image below. Note that you can clear all filters to return to the original search results.
If required, you can display the Unit score and Aggregate unit score in the markbook verification grid by enabling the settings in the institution settings for Markbook. However, if this data is not required then it should be left off to save space and improve data clarity on the grid.
Actions
Use Markbook Verification to find the learners of interest. You can then perform the following actions:
- Verify results
- You can verify and save results individually or verify all graded units at once.
- When you amend a value, the updated cells are highlighted in green. You can then apply that value to the rest of the column by selecting Fill column (all records) above the grid.
- The image below shows a selection of amended records and the option to apply the value to the entire column.
-
- Clear verified results
- Staff with the Clear verified status role can change the verification status of previously saved results.
- To do this, select Unlock records, then update the verification status of the relevant record, as shown in the image below.
- You can’t change the verification status if the results have already been released to learners.
-
- Record sampled units in Markbook verification grid
-
Optional feature that must be enabled in the institution settings for Markbook.
If enabled, you can select Record sampled units above the Markbook Verification grid.
When selected, the Verified column becomes read-only, and a new Sampled column appears. You can then choose which units have been sampled.
Fill column and Save all are not supported for sampled units, as only a small number of learner units are marked as sampled.
The image below shows the Markbook Verification grid with Record sampled units enabled.

Release verified results in Markbook verification grid
-
Optional feature that must be enabled in the institution settings for Markbook.
-
If enabled, you can release verified grades to learners by selecting Release all verified units above the Markbook Verification grid.
Once released, grades appear on the learners’ assessment screens and can’t be edited—even if Unlock records is selected.
A green circle around the verified tick indicates that grades have been released, as shown in the image below.

Sync grades to exams
-
Optional feature that must be enabled in the institution settings for Markbook.
-
If enabled, staff with the Sync grades to exams role can record predicted and actual grades in Markbook Verification. To sync grades to exams, the following conditions must be met:
-
Sync grades to exams in Markbook Verification grid is set to Y in Institution Settings.
-
Exam grades are defined for the selected grading scheme in Reference Data.
-
Exam code (UI level) and Board occurrence (UIO level) must be defined in Curriculum.
To push exam grades to a learner’s record in Exam Manager > Exam Entries, select the checkbox in either the Exam Sync - Actual or Exam Sync – Forecast column. The grades recorded in Exams Manager are based on mappings defined in the Grading Schemes reference data. For example, Pass appears as PA in Markbook Verification but as P in Exams Manager.
Grades must be verified before the Exam Sync – Actual and Exam Sync – Forecast checkboxes become available. The image below shows the Markbook Verification grid after grades have been successfully synced to Exams Manager.
